Five finger Qi Gong (Shou Yin)
This is an ancient system of healing using meditation, breathing, physical movements and stillness.
You can try this during your acupuncture treatment, once the needles have been inserted. Then again, after treatment, any time you feel like it. I find it centres and balances the self. I have found it useful both as a relaxation aid as well as a crisis intervention!
- Make sure you are sitting, or lying, comfortably
- Place feet squarely on the floor
- Place index finger on the thumb and close the eyes
- You don't have to do anything other than observe how you feel
- Notice what happens to the sensations in the fingertips and hands. Feelings of warmth, heaviness, tingling, rushing, colours, smells, memories etc.
- Hold this position for two minutes or so
- Next - place the middle finger on the thumb and observe sensations in hands, forearms, feet and lower legs. Feelings of warmth, heaviness, tingling, rushing. Hold for two minutes
- Next place your ring finger on the thumb. Notice feelings of warmth, heaviness and tingling anywhere in the body
- Next place your little finger and thumb together. Observe any changes in mood, calming, centring, clarity, elation, joy etc.
